Greetings!
Holy moley, it’s MAY and I’m just
finally getting paperwork caught up and signups out! Our CSA membership is now
open and we’d love to have you join us for a very cool summer.
We have an exciting and fun reason
to be behind on farm marketing this year: my oldest son just adopted a wild
mustang through the Teens and Oregon Mustangs Challenge. At just 13 years old,
Dylan is training a yearling wild horse who in less than a week, has become his
new best friend. It’s been a busy winter and spring as we split our time
between our usual schedule of planting, and farm work as well as rebuilding big
sturdy fencing and shelter for the new horse who has requirements above our
others while he settles in. The new horse joined our farm last weekend and now
that he’s here and those projects are largely complete, things are settling
down into our more usual routines of the gardens and livestock. We are looking forward
to sharing his journey with everyone this summer and beyond!
Horsey excitement aside, this warm
beautiful weather is promising a great year for our fruits and vegetables. The gardens
are looking good and our new farm store will be a nice addition to our
offerings this summer making on-farm pickups a great opportunity to bring a
friend along to shop and spend a little while enjoying the countryside. Our CSA
pickup hours will also be open to the public for shopping and we hope to start
putting together some special event days as well.
For those of
you who are returning, our program will be consistent with the selection and format
of years prior. If you are new to us, or CSA’s in general, our program has some
unique features that I wanted to highlight:
First:
Delivery! We are once again offering the
popular option for home delivery of your shares each week! I know many
people have busy schedules and a trip out to the farm may be difficult to work
into your day so we’re happy to offer the option of bringing it to your
doorstep.
Second:
we love offering customization of
your shares! While we have a standard mix of the best of what’s ready for
harvest each week, we are happy to swap or add things by request. I keep a
spreadsheet of the responses from our pre-season survey and update it
throughout the season so I know what you’d like more or less of. Customer emails
early in the week are wonderful and we’re happy to adjust things for you-
flexibility is one of the best things about being a small operation! We love
knowing that you’re getting the most value from your membership and making
small changes throughout the season is one way we can help you maximize your
membership.
Third:
Pasture-raised poultry additions! We have become well-known in the area
for our chickens and turkeys which we mostly sell by preorder. With your
membership, you can choose to add a bird on a schedule of your choice. This is
a great way to access bulk-buy cost savings without having to take the whole
order at once. Our turkeys also sell out early each year but our CSA members
are regularly updated as supplies start to run low so you don’t have to worry
about missing out.
I know many people have concerns about rising costs of
groceries and having a direct connection to a local farm is a great way to
insulate against that uncertainty. It’s our pleasure to share our farm and
little slice of country living with our customers and friends. We hope you’ll
join us this season!
